Design-Build allows all of the key components of a project (Architectural Design, Interior Design, Constructability, Performance & Cost) to begin and develop simultaneously. This produces a much more efficient process as each component informs the other from start to finish and project team members are communicating while they are working on their respective parts. In addition, clients are able to make decisions about design, cost and selections concurrently. This results in a project where resource allocation is optimized and the build phase time period is shortened because selections and revisions have been addressed before construction begins.
Another advantage Design-Build has over the traditional method is that it allows us to produce extremely thorough and accurate construction drawings and specifications. This translates into a shortened construction timeline and less chance of wasted time and money. This is due to the fact that the builder, architect and designer are involved with your project from the beginning, ensuring that any issues related to cost or constructability are identified and remedied early on. In addition, we include key trades in our design process to identify any potential system clashes that could affect design, timeline and cost.
Design-Build puts the knowledge, experience and resources of an experienced team to work for the client. Hillson Homes provides the right architect, engineers, interior designer and project management staff to design and build our clients’ home. We have solid working relationships with each team member and have coordinated our efforts to deliver an outstanding home with very little wasted effort or communication.
Because Hillson Homes takes responsibility for both the design and construction of the clients’ project, the client has only one relationship to manage in terms of accountability for scope, quality, cost and schedule, thereby simplifying and streamlining the communication process. With the traditional method, the client must manage relationships with an architect, interior designer and builder independently. This can result in a significant amount of complicated relationship management, and if something goes wrong, a much more difficult assignment of accountability. Design-Build avoids this arrangement and creates a much more manageable and enjoyable experience for the client, allowing them to focus on what is really important, their home.
Using Design-Build, the overall time to complete a project is shortened because all key components are developed concurrently. Hillson Homes is involved in project development right from the beginning. This saves the client from the considerable challenge of selecting a builder after their design is complete and then potentially discovering that the design they have worked so hard to complete, does not fit their budget, or may have constructability issues.
